Friday night was special. That is the night the workcamp honored the residents we had done work for. A special slideshow was presented with pictures of the residents and some workers. (I will be able to post some pictures from the workcamp in a week or two.) A lot of tears and "thank yous", as well as "good-byes".
The resident I had the pleasure of serving was Myra. She was an older woman, (I'm guessing) in her 60s. She arrived at the closing program bearing gifts. The girls were given earrings, and two of the boys were given keychains. The other adult had been looking for some pottery made by a local artist, so she gave him a piece of pottery. The earrings and keychains were all hand-beaded by local Natives. My earrings are blue with a cool yellow and white design, hung on sterling silver.
Our devotions that night was light-hearted. We went around the group and mention "a memorable moment". I had to say I was "empowered by power tools".
When we were in Durango, CO the group pitched in $ and bought two games: RISK and APPLES TO APPLES. From what I hear, the guys had some pretty intense games of Risk. Apples to Apples (IMO) is a good group game. Someone could hop in or drop out at any time. After devos Fri. night, a bunch of us played Apples to Apples.
"Lights Out" Fri. night was at midnight. We had to be checked out by 8, Saturday morning. I certainly didn't get much sleep that night. Some of the other groups were leaving at 6 or 7, so their alarms started to go off at 4 or 5. Ugh! I wasn't planning on getting up until 630, but gave up on the whole concept of sleeping around 545. After a hot shower, started packing sleeping bags and air mattresses. We (girls) were supposed to be in front of the guys' gym at 730, so we were ready to roll at 800. To the guys' shock and amazement, we were front and center at 710. Yes! ahead of schedule.
After a slight delay while waiting for the coffee shop to open, we were on the road a bit after 800. We drove from Dulce, NM to Breckenridge, CO then over to Bailey, CO to spend the night. The drive through the mountains was really beautiful. Some of the scenes reminded me of the drive from Sacramento to Portland (OR). The Rockies aren't quite as green as the Cascades, but beautiful nonetheless. After passing over Hoosier Pass (11k ft elev.) and some hairpin turns, we drove into Breckenridge. (not the worst mt. rd. I've driven...Sawtooth Mts in ID still has that honored spot!)
Some of the group went "Alpine sliding", the rest went shopping. From my understanding, Alpine sliding is similar to a luge ride, but without the ice. I was one of the shoppers. I found this really cool Scandanavian shop. Was going to buy a litle (d-something, can't remember the actual name) horse, but couldn't remember if Swede's were red or blue. Although if I remember correctly, Oakland (NE) has red horses, so it would have been red.
For supper we went to Bubba Gump's. Should have known better than to go to a restaurant because of the name. Although it was good, it was over priced and over rated. The server was more concerned about his automatic gratuity than actually serving us. (after 25 years in customer service, this is a major pet peeve of mine.)
Stay tuned for last segment and random thoughts/stories...

Oakland calls them Dala horses; after their sister community in Sweden. I've heard them called Viking horses, also, but that was in an American quilt book. The shopping excursion sounds like a great time as well as the drive thru the mountains. It's so beautiful out there!
