Oregon last day and trip home

The last day was pretty much uneventful. We stopped at Walmart to transfer my pictures to a CD, for Terry. Gotta love technology! 130 pictures on one disc vs. 130 physical pictures...coolness!

One good thing about visiting any city with a native is discovering local favorites. If I had been traveling on my own, I would not have stopped at the place we went for Sunday Brunch. The place was busy, to say the least. The table we sat at had a view of the grill. It was interesting to watch the staff work in sync with each other, just like clockwork. EVERYTHING was made from scratch, including the pancakes. No Egg Beaters here! lol

Since I had to be at the airport at 6:30 a.m., I needed to be asleep by 9. I think my body went into shock...I'm NEVER in bed before 10! lol Up at 4:30, out the door and off to breakfast. It's a good thing I had a pretty big breakfast, as I would find out 12 hours later.

I'll admit, getting out of the car, at the airport was hard. I did not want to leave, and it had nothing to do with "being on vacation." The flight from Portland to Minneapolis wasn't bad. We were placed in a holding pattern over Minneapolis, putting us on ground about 15 minutes late. Normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but my connection gate was on the other side of the airport, and the plane would be boarding already. I pushed my way through the crowd and SPRINTED (thank God I'm in fairly decent shape!) across the airport. Running on the moving walkways is a little weird, I will admit. I rounded the corner to the gate I'm supposed to be at and there's NO PLANE! Oh HELL no! I get to the gate and the flight number is the correct number, but a different time (Thank God, I can breathe now!). After verifying the flight was delayed, I could relax a bit...and I had 2 hours to do it. Yuck!

While sitting in MN, I called both girls to let them know I would be at least 2 hours late getting home. Obviously dealing with jetlag, I spaced the fact off that Jaydee wouldn't be out of school until 3. When she didn't answer her phone, I called her friend's cell. When her friend said "she should be in school. I'm at an appt. with my mom," I realized I wasn't in the right Time Zone. Feeling kind goofy, to say the least.

I spent the two hours sitting at the gate, watching the display screen praying it wouldn't be delayed any longer, or worse yet canceled. The snow outside the window kept getting heavier and heavier. The flight finally boarded. The pilot informs us we have to wait for our turn in line for de-icing. (oh joy) Wait time: about 15 minutes. (ok np) But it'll take 30 minutes to de-ice (UGH!) Fortunately, I sat next to a kind lady, who happened to live in Lincoln and grew up around Madison...oh and enjoys flying and golfing. So we chatted quite a bit. Once the de-icing thing was done, we start moving. Then the pilot informs us it'll be "a bit longer" as the runways were being re-routed due to ice and snow. Another 20 minutes of sitting. FINALLY land in Omaha 3 hours late. By the time I got to my car, got lost, then found, filled up with gas then home, I was about 4 hours later than I would have been otherwise. Oh yeah stopped to eat something...14 hours after breakfast. Like I said, it was a good thing I had a big breakfast!
