ER: Well, almost...
Last Saturday, Kendra caught her left index finger in the car door. We had stopped at a convenience store, on the way to Weight Watchers. I had already gone into the store, and was getting my coffee, when she comes around the corner with tears in her eyes and a pained look on her face. Her finger was already turning dark blue/black and the knuckle was out of place. Coffee forgotten, off we go to LinCare (non-ER emergency care), only to discover they don't open for another hour. So we went to a near by fast food drive thru for our coffee and orange juice, and a cup of ice. Amazingly, Kendra was being very patient through all of this. I figured I had better let George know what was going on, as he wasn't home yet (picking him up at some point was on the agenda). He reminded me our regular doctor's office is open on Saturdays, for emergencies and shots. While Kendra and I waited at LinCare, he called and got an appt. at the regular dr's office. By the time a doctor actually looked at her finger, the knuckle had worked it's way back into place. (I'm guessing Kendra re-located it, while she was messing around with it.) We did X-rays, just to make sure it wasn't broken. While we were waiting for the X-ray tech., she started to freak about all the things she wouldn't be able to do with her finger in a splint: play violin, play bells and (worst of all) play football. When the doctor told her it wasn't broken and all it needed was ice and Ibuprofen, you could see the relief on her face!
Oct. 29, a new member was added to my office. Her name is Heidi and was 7 weeks old (now she is 9 weeks). This fur-ball is keeping me on my toes. She is a St. Bernard/Bernece mix. She is my boss' dog. There were 11 in the litter she is from, and he (my boss) wanted to make sure she had company during the day. Other than keeping her from chewing everything in sight, she's settling in nicely. When it's nice out in the afternoon, I take her kennel at the boss' home. She rides ok in a car, no motion sickness...thank goodness. However, she insists on sitting in my lap. Big dogs and small laps are not a workable combination.
School:
My Sociology teacher is on medical leave. At the beginning of the quarter, she was scheduled for heart surgery in December. A week later, her dr. decided the surgery needed to be moved up to Oct. 31. Then the Friday before her surgery, she ended up in the hospital with a staph infection. Now that that has cleared up, she finally had her heart surgery (triple bi-pass), yesterday. The substitute is ok, but she teaches at UNL and subs at SCC. She's got the "rich kid" attitude that most UNL freshmen have. I've gotten into a couple of debates with her, in regards to her beliefs. The next few weeks will be focussed on writing my research paper, for this class. I have 3 of my 10 sources located. I'll be working on the other 7 this weekend, when I have time to go to the SCC library. (my class is in the downtown extension...opposite ends of town).
Jaydee got her 1st quarter report card, yesterday. 3-As 3-Bs and 1 D (due to her not turning her work in on time, otherwise it would have been a B, as well) A vast improvement over her grades from 6th and 7th grades.
Kendra gets her report card today. Elementary doesn't grade A-D, instead 1-4. She usually has 3s and 4s, which is "satisfactory" and "above satisfactory". She's on a mission to read 10 "Golden Sower" books, so she can attend the "Golden Sower" party at the end of the year. She already has 3 read and two more at home. She still has to write a report on two of the ones she has read. She has until March to get this all done, so I don't see a problem with her achieving her goal.
That's what's on the forefront of the brain, at the moment. Will have to take the time to fill in the gaps, later.

Poor Kendra. I hope her finger is healing quickly. Good luck with your paper.
Ouch, Kendra.
A St Bernard, no matter what it is crossed with, will not be a lap dog very long.
