I'm baaaack!

Before I get into stories about the trip, an update on the job interview...the job has been given to another candidate. I spoke with the HR person this morning. She assured me they were impressed, however the person chosen had 2 years experience in the industry and had a Bachelor's degree in Human Development. I would much rather "lose" to something like that. I guess God has other ideas for me...once again patience is on my horizon.

The YG (youth group) mission trip went very well. We started out with a slight setback. One of the kids forgot his group t-shirt and asked if we could swing by his house on the way out of town. No problem. As I took the first corner out of the church parking lot, an indicator light went off on the dashboard. It went off after a few seconds, only to come back on at my next left hand turn. (Houston, we have a problem!) Fortunately, the van rental place was on the way out of town. After a quick unload and reload (I have never seen kids move so fast in my life!) we were in a different van and on the road.

George and the girls followed us across Nebraska, stopping for lunch and fuel, when we did. We got seperated between Denver and Colorado Springs, and it would have been a pain in the butt to reconnect. The girls had given me hugs and good-byes in Denver, so they continued on their way as we found the church we were staying in in Colorado Springs.

The back lot at the church in CO Springs had an awesome view of Pike's Peak. Wonderful sight first thing in the a.m.!

(Another $40 lesson) Back on the road, after a quick stop at the grocery store for donuts and pop (or whatever a person could find for breakfast). I had been following the other van through CO (I could get to Denver...but he had directions and knowledge for the rest of the way). In order not to get lost or seperated, I would change lanes when he did. Well, State Trooper Mock apparently didn't like this idea and pulled me over for following too close. (He should have seen the foot or so between the vehicles in rush hour traffic Friday in Denver!) He also claimed I had cut off two other vehicles, because their brake lights came on after I moved into the lanes in front of them...got a warning for that. (duh dude! they hit the brakes because you were behind them!!) It was a general concensus between the passengers of both vans that A) he was bored B) saw the out-of-state plates and C) needed to meet his quota because there was no way I was too close! Personally, I think he was a disgruntled CU Buffalo fan and saw the Nebraska plates. I had to bite my tongue when he said I could come back to (the lovely state of CO) to fight the ticket, if I wanted on Sept. 10. Yeah right...I'm going to spend $300 to fight a $42 ticket.

After the 30 minute delay for Ofcr. Mock to have his fun, we continued on to Durango, CO. Beautiful drive over Wolf Creek Pass! We stopped at Treasure Falls for photo ops and a "short hike" for some of the group, along the way.

We spent the night at Christ the King ELCA church in Durango. Us girls had to be up, dressed, packed and cleaned up by 7:45, as our sleeping area was right off of the church Sanctuary. After attending the 8:05 service, we loaded up and hit the road to complete our trip to Dulce, NM.

Dulce is in the San Juan Mountains; elevation 7600. I will post another blog, later today, as my break time is over. It'll take a bit to get as many stories as I can remember posted!

Welcome home! You're in good company with that traffic ticket. Bob (Gatewood) once got a speeding ticket in Denver as we were leaving town. He, too, was invited back to dispute it a couple months later, which he opted not to do. We Nebraskans are SUCH outlaws!
